in 1971, a band of nudists, almost all of them veterans of the movement, decided to put together a vacation camp for families where they were certain they would have the support they needed to assure total nudity within a non-threatening environment. they founded american naturist association, or ana. they would not share the name of their organization with the world naturist federation. each chapter of the federation was known as a naturist colony and the ana was a nudist club.
